Our Directors

The WBSLSC Board of Directors is appointed at each Annual General Meeting and compromises a team of dedicated volunteers who oversee the strategic direction and operational implementation of the ​​​​​​​Clubs vision.

Each Board Member brings a unique professional skill set along with a passion for making a difference at the Club.

The 2017/2018 Board of Directors were elected at the Annual General Meeting on 12th August 2017. Let us introduce you to the Directors below.

Rob Obrien



Rob was first appointed as President in 2014, was awarded Life Member of the Club in 2010, Best Club Person in 2001/2002 and 2005/2006 and in 2016 celebrated 20 years service as an active patrol member. He has held a number of leadership positions at the State and National Level of life saving and his past roles for the Club include patrol captain, club captain, chief instructor, secretary, surf boat rowing crew member and more recently Team Manager for the IRB racing team.

Rob is quite simply the most hardest working member of the Club and he dedicates 100's of hours of his time across the entire year to provide the Club with the leadership that it requires to grow and prosper along with countless hours in training, patrolling, advising, mentoring... the list goes on. 

In his professional life Rob runs his own consultancy practice.

Adam Clark

​​​​​​​Director of Finance/Treasurer 

​​​​​​​Adam was first appointed as Director of Finance in 2016 and brings a strong strategic focus to the finance role including building a small team to oversee the smooth running of perational finances. 

Adam achieved his SRC in 2013/14 and Bronze Medallion in 2015/16 and in addition to his Director role, contributes a significant number of volunteer hours as Water Safety for the Nippers Program.

In his professional life Adam works for Ernst Young in the advisory/consultancy practice.​​​​​​​

Aidan Moriarty 

​​​​​​​Club Captain

Aidan was first appointed as a General Director in 2015, took up the role of Club Captain half way through the 2016 season and was appointed Club Captain for 2017/2018.  Aidan is passionate about training and development and competition. He leads the team of trainers particularly in first aid and the competition team for first aid along with dedicating over 100 active patrol hours each season.

Aidan achieved his Bronze Medallion in 2012; he also holds 3 of the 4 Silver Medallion awards; has been an active patrol member for 5 years; active trainer for the past 4 years and was a finalist in the beach sprint and first aid competition.  Aidan attended the National Leadership College in 2016/2017.

Aidan is studying his Bachelor of Paramedicine Degree.

Natalie Ashdown

​​​​​​​General Director

​​​​​​​​​​​Natalie was first appointed to the Board in 2014 and Junior Activities Coordinator after serving as Age Manager. Over the seasons Natalie has grown the Nippers program and the Nippers team significantly in her role as Junior Actitivites Coordinator.  Natalie also leads the Community CPR program and other projects.

In 2015/2016 she was awarded Best Club Person; was a finalist in the Life Saving Victoria State Excellence Awards for Nipper Volunteer of the Year and attended the 2016 SLSA Leaders Masterclass– one of 20 participants in Australia.  Natalie achieved her SRC in the 2015/2016 season.

​​​​​​​In her professional life Natalie is CEO of The Open Door Coaching Group.

Daniel Nelson

General Director

Daniel was first appointed to the Board as General Director in 2016 and brings a strong innovation, relationship building and marketing skill set to the Board. An enthusiastic and passionate volunteer, Daniel is an Age Manager on the Nippers Program and in 2015 achieved his SRC and Bronze Medallion to contribute to Water Safety.

In his professional life Daniel is Innovation Manager at Gough Transport Solutions.

Jane Wilhelm 

General Director/ Member Protection Officer

Jane was first appointed to the Board as General Director in 2016 and brings a strong

legal and compliance background to the Board. She is the Clubs Member Protection Officer and also volunteers as an Age Manager for the Nipper Program.

​​​​​​​In her professional life Jane is Legal Counsel for the Department of Education.

Jessica Horsburgh

General Director
Jess was first appointed to the Board in 2017.  In the 2016/2017 season she achieved her 5th year of patrol service with the Club, over 100 patrol hours, along with acting as Club Vice-Captain and contributing to Club camps.  In her role as First Aid Officer Jess has made a significant contribution and in 2017 she was awarded Best Club Person. 

Jess is currently studying to be a nurse.
