How To Become Radio Operator
Where It Can Take You
As the population of Sandy Point swells over the summer from 300 local residents to over 3,000 residents and holiday makers our active patrol members spend their summers to keeping us all safe carrying out aquatic rescues, providing first aid and emergency care and providing surf safety information to the public.
Every year a number of our patrol members dedicate over 100 hours of time to patrol.
Enormous preparation goes into getting ready for the patrol season with the active committee setting training dates, patrol rosters and conducting activities like gear inspection.
What Training or Qualifications Will I Need?
The first step to becoming a lifesaver is to hold or obtain the following qualifications;
Qualifications
Provides participants with the skills and knowledge to perform basic communication practices.
Prerequisites
The Surf Rescue Certificate provides participants with the skills and knowledge of basic patrolling and surf awareness in order to be able to participate in lifesaving operations and act in the role of Water Safety Personnel.
The Bronze Medallion course provides participants with the skills and knowledge of patrolling and surf awareness in order to be able to participate in lifesaving operations.
Other Requirements
You must be 13 or over to do your Radio Operator Certificate or Surf Rescue Certificate You must be 15 or over to do your Bronze Medallion.
