The Waratah Marine Search and Rescue is part of the wider LSV marine rescue operations responding to call-outs and taskings year-round.
Marine Search and Rescue (MSAR) units across the state play an extremely important role in the safety of boaters around Victoria’s coastline, out at sea, and in many of our inland waterways.
Waratah MSAR crew is made up entirely of dedicated volunteers, who are trained to national search and rescue standards. Our crew are made up of skippers, crew members and specialist. They are often called upon to locate and provide emergency assistance to sinking vessels, vessels with flat batteries and other mechanical problems, or vessels that have run aground. They also rescue swimmers and aquatic sports enthusiasts when in danger or needing a rescue response. When emergencies arise, MSAR units have also be called upon to perform medical evacuation responses.
In case of all emergencies big or small, always contact 000 – operators are always happy to take your call and in the best position to allocate available and appropriate resources. Alternatively, 03 9399 7500 will put you in touch with Victorian Water Police directly (the number is on your boat license) and they also welcome all calls for assistance.
