IRB TRAINING & RACING

IRB Training and Racing at Waratah Beach SLSC

Inflatable Rescue Boat (IRB) training and racing is an exciting and essential part of surf lifesaving at Waratah Beach Surf Life Saving Club. IRBs play a critical role in surf rescue operations, allowing our teams to respond quickly and effectively to emergencies in the surf zone.

Our IRB training program is designed to develop the skills, knowledge, and confidence needed to operate IRBs safely and competently. Training includes a combination of practical on-water sessions and theory, covering areas such as:

  • Safe launch and landing procedures
  • Surf negotiation and rescue techniques
  • Crew and driver communication
  • Maintenance and equipment care
  • Racing strategies and teamwork

Whether you are working towards your IRB Crew Certificate or your IRB Driver’s Award, our experienced trainers will guide you through each step in a safe and supportive environment.

For those interested in competition, IRB racing offers a fantastic opportunity to build advanced skills, foster teamwork, and represent Waratah Beach SLSC in local, state, and national carnivals.
